Organized Shopping and Savings

Been thinking more and more how much time it takes (not to mention gas and impulse buys) from multiple shopping trips. I often realize my home meals will be missing something and/or desiring to purchase fresh constantly.

I took a step back and realized the compounded impact of this.

This is not the best use of time and/or money. Going forward I will be more organized with shopping lists and knock out my shopping adventures during organized and planned times. This pre-planning in several areas will allow me to better save and plan as well as have more time. Looking forward to finding new efficiencies!

Here is how I will pull it off – I need to review a typical weeks worth of food, and make sure all staples are covered and that there’s a good balance of fresh vs. frozen and canned foods. It might be worthwhile to look at additional storage containers that can keep foods freshest as I look more into buying in bulk (another time and money saver). To start with, I will definitely not be running out to buy things today and get the list going.

When my PDA technology was limited to the Palm III platform I had disciplined myself tremendously with shopping lists that I would use all the time. For some reason, even with my newer and cooler technologies like the Palm Pre and the Android (yes I should also look at minimizing all my phones) that I seem to have lost this functionality. As neither syncs my tasks/notes properly with Exchange yet, I don’t make use of this either.

WOW – it’s been awakening just writing this on several different improvement areas. For right now, I’m starting with a shopping list – actually a few of them – things for household, pets, groceries, etc. Additionally, making lists of calls I need to make (things I can’t get around; some people still haven’t adopted newer technologies), and organize this as well as possibly find a way to outsource as much of this as possible.

I had not mentioned but I am working without an administrative assistant of any kind, and winging this all on my own – it is a challenge I am up for and just wanted to be clear to myself – if it is meant to be then it is up to me!
